RICHMOND, VA - Richmond Music Week announces its second annual week-long
celebration of Richmond, Virginia’s thriving music scene taking place August 2-11, 2024.
Events will be happening all week at the city’s numerous live music venues and will be
listed on Richmond Music Week’s online calendar.
Richmond Music Week is brought together by Richmond music organizations and supporters HearRVA, Ignited, The Auricular, and Shockoe Records.
Throughout the week, many of Richmond’s live music venues will feature performances
from across different genres and artists from big name acts at larger venues like The
National and the Dominion Energy Center to local and regional musicians at places
such as The Camel, Black Iris, and Get Tight Lounge. Richmond Music Week will also
highlight local record stores, record labels, and recording studios along with pop-up
events at various locations around the city.
“We’re excited to be in our second year promoting Richmond, Virginia as an incredible
music destination,” said Doug Nunnally with The Auricular. “We received tons of
positive response from the community and we’re looking forward to spotlighting even
more about our city’s all-inclusive music scene from local bands and nationally
recognized artists to creative hubs and organizations that continue to make it better.”
The week kicks off on Friday, Aug. 2 with 804 Day, a free all-day music and arts block
party in Shockoe Bottom around the 17th Street Farmers Market area. The festival
hosts multiple stages of music along with food, artisan, and non-profit vendors. Artists
performing at 804 Day include Nickelus F, Ant The Symbol, Erin and the Wildfire, Høly
River, Rein, Los Hermanos Alacranes, Weldon Hill, Knifing Around, Kadencia, Palmyra,
Flight Club, Dead Billionaires, Vexine, Weekend Plans, The Sugar Hollows, Niiasii, and
The Sweet Potatoes.
The Valentine will be presenting a special RVA Music Lovers Bus Tour on Sunday, Aug.
4 from 1-3:30 p.m. that will highlight the city’s music scene throughout the Richmond
area from iconic music stores to legendary concert venues and the artists that put
Richmond on the map.
Local music support organization HearRVA will host its third annual Music Mixer & Fundraiser at
KavaClub on Sunday, Aug. 4. The event will feature local vendors who specialize in
services that help grow a musician’s career along with performances from some of the
city’s best local talent including Tiara & Andrew, Tyler Meacham, and DJing by Ant The Symbol. Ticket and raffle proceeds will also benefit the Newlin Music Prize.
Shockoe Sessions Live, the live music webcast series presented by Shockoe Records,
will be hosting Deau Eyes on Tuesday, Aug. 6 for a special Richmond Music Week episode
at In Your Ear Studios.
On Wednesday, Aug. 7, The Auricular will be hosting a special in-store performance at
Plan 9 Music with indie-folk pop artist Righter as well as partnering with Woman Crush Wednesday, an inclusive monthly music event featuring women and trans artists, for a
show at The Camel featuring local artists Sweet Touch, Flora & The Fauna, and Trash
Rocket.
Local community social networking website Ignited will be hosting its Writers Round
series on Thursday, Aug. 8 at Spacebomb Studio with performances by four
local songwriters who will each share a song along with some kind of story or
context. This event allows artists to not only learn more about the projects happening in
the local community, but to network and meet other Ignited members in person.
Additional events and dates will be announced on Richmond Music Week’s social media accounts.
Artists with events happening during this time can submit information to be listed on the
official Richmond Music Week calendar.
“Our hope is that any artists performing during this week will help keep the calendar
updated, so we can provide a complete list of events happening during Richmond Music
Week,” said Rian Moses-Hedrick with HearRVA. “We encourage anyone interested in discovering live music in Richmond this week to take advantage of the online listings and special events to get a small taste of what the city’s music scene offers including pop, hip-hop, rock, jazz, electronica, metal, folk, punk, experimental, and more.”
